Emma you write so beautifully and this post is inspiring and thought-provoking. I love your beauty and truth photos! They speak to me of how valuable it is to share our vulnerabilities with others (in addition to our joys—those are important to share too). It helps people feel less alone. 💜
I totally resonate with the different parts you describe: the dreamer and the master planner. I now recognise them as my inner child and my inner warrior. Both can go into extremes and when they do, I think it's because my child needs some space and mothering, and my warrior a bit of loving and re-assurance. I also love seeing beauty in unexpected places, so I love your photos.
What a lovely response! Thank you for sharing something of your inner experiences.
Have you come across Internal Family Systems? It is a therapeutic model (with good backing by research) that describes the experience many (most?) of us have of varying 'parts' within us, some of which work in harmony, many of which are at odds with each other. It is a therapeutic model that I love, and your clear descriptions of different parts of yourself reminded me of my work with IFS.
And I've just checked your profile after writing this, and, errrr, I have a part of me that is a bit embarrassed that I have just explained IFS to a psychologist! lol
Emma I just got sucked into this and read the whole thing. It's absolutely beautifully written and really thought-provoking, so thank you for sharing x
I believe the extreme emotions are always related and never far from one another. That is the price of living to your fullness and in the fullness of everything rather than with the herd mindset. I am actually obsessed with time. I like this story, thanks.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I agree, those extreme emotions are closer than people sometimes think. And living in the 'fullness of everything' is a wonderful thing, even with the pain it can bring.
Obsessed with time is a whole mood (as the kids say! lol).
I love the idea of the “behind-the-scenes” photographs to go along with the ones that give the impression of pure adulterated beauty! I wonder if we could do this in a more general way to show people that our lives aren’t as perfect as we present them on social media!
I have enjoyed doing these 'behind the scenes' photos in various guises over the years. I like to show the less than perfect, as well as enjoying beautiful sights. Thank you for commenting.
An extremely thoughtful and thought provoking read Emma, very much resonate with wanting to soak in every moment with children even without the clarity you had forced upon you.
The ongoing working out life as we go also resonates, I don't think I've worked out where I'm starting from yet! Your writing always opens new ideas for me. Thank you x
