Gorgeous post! I've never heard of Miss Rumphius but this really makes me want to get hold of a copy. And I love how you're tugged on all these fascinating threads around biography and recording people's stories down through the generations - it's something that's on my mind right now as I'm trying to develop a new business in this whole area.

Thank you Vicki. I'm glad you enjoyed the post so much. It is a lovely book - I hope you can find a copy somewhere.

Your new business venture sounds intriguing. And it rings a bell - I think I may have read about it on one of your posts? Good luck with it. Recording people's stories is so valuable, I think.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I rather liked my last line too! It is a beautiful book, I agree, and should be better known in the UK, I think. Although, actually, my sister-in-law just told me after reading this post, that my niece borrowed the book from her school library and also loved it! 🥰

I LOVE MISS RUMPHIUS. I grew up in New England so obviously it was something I was familiar with as a kid. I forgot the name, but referenced this book and Alice by extension by referring to her as 'the lady who planted all the flowers in Maine.' Everyone knew who I was talking about and it got the point across.

Lovely! And what a beautiful part of the world to grow up in. I have been to New England only twice in my life, but I hope to go back one day...

If you can swing it, definitely come visit in the Fall! Our autumns are unparalleled, and the leaves are just gorgeous. I was at a baby shower recently and this book was given as a gift so the legend of the Lupine Lady will live on.

Thank you Rachel. It is a lovely book, but not well known in the UK, I think, which is a shame.

Was hard

But I did it

And thought about it all day

Would like to record a audio about it

So many things came to my “heart” my dear

That is a deep question for which I don’t have an answer! 😅 But a very interesting question to ponder! Do you have any theories?
