Here is the Tarka Dahl recipe, without the photos, links and silly comments!
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 45 minutes to an hour
Ingredients:
1 cup/200ml red lentils
1 cup/200ml channa dhal
6 cups/1200ml water
1 tin chopped tomatoes
Garlic (1/2 a bulb), chopped
Ginger (a couple of inches), chopped
Spices (2 teaspoons of each (or less for a milder dish)):
cumin seeds
cumin powder
coriander powder
chilli powder
turmeric
salt
Additional (optional) ingredients: fresh coriander; lemon juice/zest; sliced, fried onions
Method:
Wash the lentils.
Put everything (except the additional ingredients) in a huge saucepan.
Bring it to the boil.
Turn it down to a simmer.
Simmer for 45 minutes.
Top with fresh coriander, a squeeze of lemon, or some sliced, fried onions.
